How does Amantadine works
Amantadine is basically used for treating influenza infections. It is also effective in the treatment of Parkinson's disease that includes shaking tremors, slack muscle tones or difficulty in walking. Amantadine thereby improves the muscle control and lessens the stiffness providing normal movements of the different body parts.
Amantadine Side Effects

Amantadine Precautions
1. Amantadine is known for increasing the amount of neurotransmitter dopamine( a central nervous system stimulant) in the brain and therefore patients who suffer from epilepsy, siezure disorders or elderly people having kidney diseases need to be careful while using this medication.
2. Patients using this drug should be cautious while operating dangeruos machines or any other work that requires mental alertness and coordination because Amantadine drug may cause drowsiness or fatigue.
3. Alcohol should be avoided alongwith the use of this drug.
4. Dose reduction of Amantadine while the treatment of NMS (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome) should be made under medical supervision by the patients else it could lead to some life threatening syndromes.
5. Patients who are above the age of 65 and those who are suffering from renal impairment need to adjust the dose of Amantadine to avoid risks of heart failures, orthostatic hypotension or peripheral edema.
