Aldara is the trade name under which the medical cream called Imiquimod is being prescribed to any person who suffers from skin diseases or some form of skin cancer such as basal skin cancer, squamous cell carcinoma, actinic keratosis and other type of genital warts.

How does Aldara works
It is used as a unique treatment for skin diseases including skin cancer and other genital warts. As such Aldara stimulates the immune system of the body and thereby identifies and eliminates the infected cells of the body. It also treats any lesions that are not visible on the human body but persists beneath the skin surface.
Aldara Side Effects
The side effects caused by the use of this drug may include common as well as rare effects. The commonly found side effects among patient may include:
1. Skin blisters
2. Redness, itching or flaking in different skin areas
3. Open sores on the skin or scabs on the skin
4. Shortened breathe or difficulty in breathing
5. Sneezing along with sore throat and running nose
6. Uncommon tiredness and weakness
The uncommon side effects of Aldara could include:
1. Any shining bumps on the skin
2. Red growth on the skin or some patches upon the irritating area
3. Severe headaches
4. Tender lymph glands in the neck or armpit
5. High amount of cholesterol in the blood
6. Feeling the urge to urinate frequently
Aldara Precautions
1. Aldara cream creates the possibility of weakening the use of condoms and diaphragms and therefore patient should avoid sexual contact when the cream is applied upon the skin.
2. A pregnant woman using Aldara cream should apply it only after consulting her physician.
3. This cream is not supposed to be used to treat any sort of internal warts (vagina or anus).
4. While the cream is being applied on the skin one should avoid covering that area with airtight bandage and cotton dressings should be preferred.
5. It is better not to use any other skin product on the same skin area where Aldara cream is being used.
6. Avoid sharing the cream with other people and always keep it less than 25 degrees C of room temperature.
Always remember that it is very important that your medical practitioner should know about your illness history or what you are taking because some prescription medications do not interact well with other drugs. In fact, some drug interactions can be very dangerous in this case.
